Departmental Activities
At present the department offers regular Undergraduate, Postgraduate, M.Phil. and research programme in Music. In addition it also conducts Certificate and Diploma courses in Vocal, Instrumental i.e. Voilen, Sitar, Sarod, Tabla etc. and Dance i.e Kathak, Manipuri as part time courses. The department is responsible for maintaining the cultural ethos in the campus. It organizes special programs on various auspicious days throughout the year such as Ganesh Chaturthi, Durgapuja, Guru Nanak Jayanti, Chrismas, Id-ul-fitr, Basant Panchami and National Festivals. Annual Music Festival is celebrated every year in memory of Shri Bhatkhande and Dr. Vishnu Digambar Paluskar. Resource persons of national fame such as Vishwa mohan Bhatt and Pt. Krishna Mohan Bhatia are invited in the workshops and seminars to give the students an opportunity to interact with great personalities. Almost all renowned artists have performed at the Vidyapith. To name a few the list has Pt. Omkar nath Thakur, Raja Bhiya Poonchwale, Kishan Maharaj, Prabha Atre, Gundeja Brothers, Sarjeev Abhyankar, Sombala and dance programs by Vanishri jayrama, Sonal Mansingh, Dipti Bhalla and many others.
The alumni of the department have acclaimed international fame. Alka Deo is famous classical singer. Dr. Shiva Vyas has the honor of being the first musician to provide Music in Hollywood Film. The students regularly perform on stage and participate in cultural programmes and Inter University Youth festivals. They normally win awards in all Regional and National Level cultural competitions. They have been retaining the zonal as well as national championship trophy in Dance for the last few years.
