About The Department
Unlike other institute Banasthali University's Department of Mathematics and
Statistics is unique in nature for its interdisciplenary PG Programs. The
Department offers M.Sc. in Mathematical Sciences (Pure Mathematics, Statistics,
Operations Research, Theoretical Computer Science) and also M.Phil and Ph.D. in
Mathematical Sciences. Presently The Department is under the Umbrella of Apaji
Institute of Mathematics and Applied Computer Technology (AIM & ACT) which was
founded on 1991.The object of Apaji Institute is to achieve synergy among the
teaching and research in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Electronics,
Physics and Bio - Informatics. One of the strong points of Apaji Institute is to
infuse logical abilities and abstract thinking in its students by integrating
learning of Mathematics in all its programs. Besides the normal course of
teaching of the subject the students of the Department of Mathematics and
Statistics are oriented for regular seminars, presentations and discussions. The
faculty of the department participating in various seminars, workshops and
conferences of National and International levels.
Apart
from the regular Department of Mathematics and Statistics Banasthali University
has a 'Centre for Mathematical Sciences' (CMS) which is one of the four CMS in
the country, sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of
India.
DST Centre for Mathematical Science (CMS):
To motivate research, Department of
Science and Technology, govt. of India has established Centre for Mathematical
Sciences (CMS) in November 2007 at Banasthali University under the leadership of
Prof. Aditya Shastri and with financial support from Department of Science &
Technology (DST), Govt. of India. The domain aim of the Centre is to create a
centre of excellence covering all aspects of Discrete Mathematics, Statistics,
Mathematical Modeling. Apart from carrying out fundamental research, other
objectives of the Centre are the followings:
-
To Assemble excellent researchers who will be
willing to take up any challenges in the country to successfully tackle them.
-
To Give consulting service on mathematical and statistical
aspects to Scientists in other institutions, and university and college
teachers.
-
To encourage excellent doctorates.
- To produce research publications, monographs etc. and
raise the standards of these to the international level.
Establishment of the Centre witnessed significant increase
in number of students in Post Graduate Programme of Mathematical Sciences along with
significant increase in the academic activities in department of Mathematics &
Statistics.
In addition to the usual seminars and in-house research
following conferences workshops and training programmes were held under umbrella
of CMS.
1. National workshop on Bayesian Techniques and its
Applications (Oct. 1-7, 2009)
2. Training Programme on Optimization and its Applications
(Dec. 24-29, 2009)
3. Pre-Conference workshop on Discrete Mathematics
(Jan. 6-10, 2009)
4. Jubilee Conference on Discrete mathematics (Jan. 11-13,
2009)
5. Seminar on Time Series Modeling (Oct. 3-6, 2009)
6. National Workshop in Mathematical Modeling (Dec.
15-19, 2009)
