Infrastructure and Resources

Laboratories:

The state-of-art laboratories of the department have adequate modern equipment for regular practical in LASER Lab., Microwave electronics and Advance Communication Lab, Condensed Matter Physics Lab, and Nuclear Physics Lab, which is augmented every year.

Research Facilties:

Although, the PG program is relatively recent but it has attained repute being recognized by all major scientific & research organizations. The faculty members are actively engaged in research  (List of Publications) and the students, besides studying the regular courses, are provided adequate exposure of frontier research in Physics by way of summer training, after II Semester at various research organizations. Recently, our students worked during summer in National research organizations such as BARC Mumabi, RRCAT Indore, IUAC New Delhi, NSC New Delhi, University of Pune, Pune, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, IPR Gandhinagar, CSIO Chandigarh, WIHG Dehardun etc. The faculty members are engaged in research in the following areas:

  •  Study of some technologically important binary alloys and compounds by Compton scattering technique.

  •   Study and characterization of electrodeposited nano structured thin films of Cu, Zn and Ag .

  •   Study of electronic structure properties in various high Tc cuprate Perovskites.

  •   Optical, electrical and thermal properties on Semiconducting Glassy materials.

  •   Synthesis and characterization of Ferromagnetic TM-doped ZnO.

  •   Modeling of binary & ternary semiconductor Nanostructures using nextnano3

  •   Noise Suppression in image processing using Wavelets.

  •   Application of chaotic dynamical systems in cryptography.

  •   Study and Development of glaze materials to be used in Solar Thermal Appliances.

Achievements

Very recently, in Feb. 2008, the Department organized a National workshop on Radiochemistry and Applications of Radioisotopes (NWRAR). This workshop was organized in joint auspicious of Indian Association of Nuclear Chemists and Allied Scientist (IANCAS) and Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS). In this workshop, eminent scientists from BARC Mumbai delivered special lectures on specialized topics related to Nuclear Physics, Nuclear Reactors, Atomic energy program in India, Production & Applications of Radioisotopes etc. The lectures were supplemented by specialized experimental training and the participants were provided hands on experience in use of Nuclear Instruments.
