International Conference on Women's Education at Banasthali University

A conference on women’s education would be held at Banasthali University (Rajasthan) from November 11- 13, 2008 for commemorating the completion of twenty five years of this institution as a deemed to be university and the beginning of the 75th year of its existence.

Banasthali University, a fountainhead of women’s education in India has christened itself as an ‘Institution for Women’ and strives to live upto its name. As the old order is yielding place to a new one with the whole world becoming a global village, it is about time to revisualise the vision and mission of the women’s universities.

The conference would be inaugurated by Prof. Suma Chitnis, a renowned academician and former Vice Chancellor of S.N.D.T. University, Mumbai at 10.00 a.m. in Gyan Mandir Auditorium of the University. The inaugural session would be presided over by Prof. Diwakar Shastri, honourable president, Banasthali University and a doyen of Indian education who has proven to be a relentless crusader for the cause of women empowerment and firmly believes that a purposeful education is a stepping stone to empowerment.

Prof. Aditya Shastri, honourable Vice Chancellor, Banasthali University would deliver the welcome address and Prof. Miriam David, Associate Director, Higher Education, University of London, the keynote speech. Vote of thanks would be presented by Prof. Siddharth Shastri. Prof. Alka Sharma, an erudite sociologist and coordinator, Women’s Studies and Research Centre, Banasthali University is the convener of the conference. Twenty seven experts including six from abroad would deliberate upon the various themes of the conference with focus on the role of women’s university in empowering them, rethinking about women’s education in global society, women in science and technology to partnering and paving the way for a world of opportunities for women.

More than a thousand delegates would participate in the conference and more than a hundred papers would be presented. The conference is expected to come up with revelations which may herald the dawn of a new era in women’s education, empowerment and emancipation.
