A REPORT
Physical
education is one of the important aspects of the five fold educational programme
of Banasthali Vidyapith. The Vidyapith is well equipped with modern
infrastructure for physical education and sports. Training is provided in
various modern and traditional Indian games. The activities include Equestrian,
Table-tennis, Hockey, Lawn-tennis, Cricket, Handball, Softball, Throw ball,
Athletics (track & field), Aerobics, Martial arts under modern games; and
Yoga, Kho-Kho, Kabbadi, Lezium, Dumbbells, Lathi, Talwar, Bhala etc. under the
traditional sport activities of India. The objective is to make sports and
physical activities an important part of the daily routine making it a way of
life and generate fitness part of the daily routine making it a way of life and
generate fitness awareness among the masses. The programmes of physical
education provide opportunities to participate in various competitions inside
the campus as intramural competitions and also at the national/state/district
and inter-university tournaments as extramural competitions.
The
programmes of Physical Education Banasthali Vidyapith includes:

Intramural
Activities:
Intramural
activities are a regular feature in Banasthali Vidyapith. The activities
organized under this programme are:
i. Regular
Physical fitness activities for the student mass
Morning two
hours are exclusively devoted for the general fitness of the student mass at
Vidula maidan. The fitness Activities includes Yoga, Manipuri Martial Arts,
JKarate, Swimming, Horse Riding, Aerobics, Conditioning programme and
recreational games. Large number of students regularly participates in
this programme for fitness. The entire evening session is for the training and
coaching for elite sport at Vidula Maidan for major ball games and at Gyan
mandir for racquet games.
ii.
Intramural competitions
These
competitions are popularly known as inter hostel competitions in the campus.
The Intramural competitions for the year 2005-2006 was formally inaugurated by
the Director, Banasthali Vidyapith, Prof. Aditya Shastri, on August 10,
2005. the opening ceremony took-off with a March past represented by various
hostels/houses of the Vidyapith. Twenty-four troops representing around seven
hundred students participated in the march past with tremendous energy and
enthusiasm. The junior most section of the Vidyapith the primary school
section, represented with four houses, Takshila, Nalanda, Vikramshila,
Sanchi. The Higher Secondary School section also represented themselves
with the same houses as above and the University wing was represented
with fifteen hostels. The troops demonstrated different tableaus in the
form of informal March past, projecting current affairs in colorful costumes
having various social, political and cultural themes. This demonstration
projected their creativity imaginations, and awareness of current affairs. The
spectacular presentation kicked off the yearlong intramural
competitions.
The
intramural competitions were organized in fifteen different games, at all
levels; i.e. Primary school section, Higher Secondary school section and the
University wing of Banasthali Vidyapith. Various games organized were;
Basketball, Throwball, Hockey, Tennis, Kho-Kho, Kabbaddi, Handball, Table
Tennis, slow Cycle Race, Fast Cycle Race, Cross Country, Archery, Swimming,
Badminton, Horse riding and Mass Demonstration competitions between all the
faculties.
The
valedictory of intramural competitions was organized on 02 March, 2006.
the director or Banasthali Vidyapith, Prof. Aditya Shastri was the guest
of honor. This function was celebrated with mass participation competitions of
various houses and hostels. The activities included demonstration of
calisthenics, formations, drills, and still Techniques of various
games.
All the
winners, runners and second runners were honored with trophies. The Intramural
competition was formally declared closed by the guest of honor.
iii. Horse
Riding
Horse riding
is one of the regular activities in Banasthali Vidyapith. Training is provided
in this activity regularly for participation in the competitions and various
occasional demonstrations.

show was organized on 11th November 2005 for the guest from Oman.
- Horse riding
show was organized on 16th November 2005 for German Deligates.
- Horse riding
Intramural was organized on 03rd December 2005.
- Horse riding
show was organized for Yogendra Tripathi, Senior Vice President, Artech India,
N-Delhi on 24th December 2005.
iv.
Shooting
Shooting is
one of the regular activities of Banasthali Vidyapith. Training is provided in
this activity regularly for participation in the competitions and various
occasional demonstrations.
v.
Flying
Banasthali
Vidyapith has its own licensed airfield (09 / 26); and has a Pushpak Aircraft
VTDNB. The Vidyapith provides training to the eligible selected students for
SPL (Students Pilot License), for which they have to undergo an entrance test.
The flying batch consisted of 32 students.
vi.
Swimming
Swimming is a
seasonal activity; this facility is also available to all the students of the
Vidyapith. More than 50% of the students learn swimming in the campus every
year.

Intramural was organized on 30th August 2005.
- Two girls
from Vidyapith were selected for Women’s National organized at Sangaru (Punjab)
from 23rd October to 27th October 2005 and they secure first place.
Extramural
competition
This is one
of the important programme in physical education. Students of Banasthali
Vidyapith participate in different inter-university and other open competition
organized by different A.I.U. sponsored universities and federations.
Banasthali Vidyapith participated in the following discipline at various

Senior
National Tournaments
Hockey:
- Six Girls
were selected for junior National Hockey Championship, held at Jabalpur
(MP).
- Kumari
Vinamarta and Kumari Gunja Soni of Vidyapith were elected as captain and vice
captain for Junior National Hockey Championship.
- Ten girls
were selected for Junior State Hockey Championship, held at Hanumangarh
(Raj.)
- Five girls
were selected for Women’s National organized by Bilaspur (Chattisgarh).
- Vidyapith
Hockey team participated in All India Inter University Hockey Tournament
organized by Banasthali Vidyapith.
Kho-Kho:
- Two girls of Banasthali Vidyapith were
selected for Women’s National held at, Saifai (U.P.)
Rajasthan State Level
Tournaments
Hockey:
- Ten girls were selected for Junior State
Hockey Championship, held at Hanumangarh (Raj.)
- Hockey team has been the Runner in women
state level competition.
Basketball:
- Basketball team has been the Runner in
women state level competition.
- Vidyapith team reached up to third round
in school state.
- One girl was selected for School
National.
- Basketball exhibition match was
organized between faculty of Arts and AIM & ACT in which Director Prof.
Aditya Shastri was invited as chief guest.
- Basketball Intra Mural final was
organized on 7th December, 2005.
Inter-University Competitions (All

Basketball: Basketball team of Banasthali Vidyapith
participated in South west zone Inter-University Basketball championship
organized by barkatullah University, Bhopal from 24th January
2006.
Volleyball: Volleyball team of Banasthali Vidyapith
participated in South west zone Inter-University Volleyball championship
organized by Mangalore University from 29th September
2005.
Hockey:
Banasthali Vidyapith Hockey team participated in all India Inter-University
Hockey Championship organized by Banasthali Vidyapith from 5th to
13th February, 2006.
Archery:
Banasthali Vidyapith Archery team participated in all India Inter-University
championship organized by Nagarjuna University from 18th January,
2006.
Table
Tennis: Table Tennis team participated in South west zone Inter-University,
Table Tennis championship organized by Ahmedabad University, Gujarat from
16th January 2006.
Chess:
Chess team participated in All India Inter-University Chess championship
organized by V.I.T. Vellore from 10th September 2005.
Cricket:
Cricket team participated in All India Inter-University Cricket championship
organized by University of Calcutta from 15th February
2006.
Organisation of tournaments
Inter
university tournaments and various other open tournaments are regularly
organized at Banasthali Vidyapith. We had been organizing women inter
university competitions in various discipline right from the year the Vidyapith
was given the status of Deemed University. We are proud to say that Banasthali
Vidyapith is the only university in the country to have organized maximum number
of inter-university tournaments for women. This year Banasthali Vidyapith had
organized All India Inter University Hockey championship. So far we have
organized – Twelve Inter University tournaments for women.

Banasthali
Vidyapithy had also organized district level senior hockey championship
and Tonk district level women’s festival championship in different
games i.e. Hockey, Volleyball, Kabaddi, Basketball, Kho-Kho and
Banasthali Vidyapith was the winners in all the games.
An
Academic Discipline
Physical
education is an optional subject in the three-year degree course. Forty-eight
students opting it was an encouraging note for physical education. The
objective is to introduce physical education and vocationally prepare the
students for carrier oriented advanced studies in this field.

A meeting of Department of Physical Education staff regarding five
year plan and future plan on 15th October.
·
Tonk District Hockey association meeting and selection trials of
new members were held on 22nd October. Mrs. Usha Tiwari was elected
as Secretary of Tonk District Hockey association.
·
Meeting with Prof. T.K.S. Lakshmi regarding B.PEd. Innovated
course.
·
Department of physical education has organized a National Hockey
Umpiring clinic during the year 2005-2006.

Training and coaching for elite sports
competitions
This is one
of the important and major activities of physical education programme. Training
is provided in both the sessions (morning and evening) for the students
representing Banasthali Vidyapith in different inter university and open
tournaments in different games i.e. hockey, basketball, volleyball, table
tennis, badminton, swimming, archery, shooting, fencing, tennis. The coaches of
national cadre provide their services periodically according to the demand of
Banasthali Vidyapith. This year the new game introduced was Cricket.

Mass demonstration
Mass
demonstration had also ben performed at various occasions other than that of
intramural opening and closing ceremonies. The annual function of Banasthali
Vidyapith also projected mass demonstration in various events such as yoga,
calisthenics, martial arts, combative sports, fencing and javelin fight, Judo
& Karate etc.
