III.          Grass Root Action and Management (GRAM)

In general, Management Programmes don't provide opportunity to their students of GRAM (Grassroot Action and Management). However, the holistic development of an individual, as well as for broadening one's vision, understanding of the grass root issues and an exposure to the grass root problems is a prerequisite.

GRAM exposure to students becomes essential because Management students, in their corporate jobs, entrepreneurial tasks and leadership roles, have to deal with field realities. In addition, Indian villages are reservoirs of native creativity. This creativity can be tapped for new ideas that can be useful for entrepreneurship as well as corporate management e.g., rural marketing. Native creativity is also useful for generating ideas for advertising. GRAM Programme also gives an opportunity to document and understand the uniqueness of the Indigenous Knowledge Systems that contain rich ideas not only for local solutions but also for universal applications.

The GRAM Programme also exposes student to the working of the grass-root development institutions. Thus, it provides them an understanding of the creation and development of the institutions of the grass root levels. The exposure thus gained is useful in a better grasp of the management concepts such as inter-personal relationships, group dynamics, team work etc. Gram programme also enhances the understanding of grass-root issues involved in "Development Oriented Management".

Gandhi ji undertook a sojourn of the countryside, even-though this was not necessary for him. However, through his sojourn he understood the latent spirituality and creativity of the masses, in spite of economic poverty. He was wonderstruck and used his insights to draw a strategy for the freedom movement. Indian freedom movement now is a unique strategic management case study that has no parallel in human history.

For a twenty-first century manager and entrepreneur, a similar brief sojourn is necessary to get a holistic understanding of the relevance of management at different levels. Grass-root Action and Management programme provides this orientation.

IV.           Corporate Exposure and Training (CET)

At FMS-WISDOM, the classroom training provides the necessary conceptual background to the students. In order to bridge the theory - practice gap, it is important that students get exposed to day-to-day corporate realities. The objective of the module in Corporate Exposure and Training is to expose students not merely to corporate corridors but to the corporate action and work culture.

FMS-WISDOM's Corporate Exposure and Training module has been designed around the FMS-WISDOM framework; ‘Knowledge-Action-Reflection-Wisdom'. This framework is applicable not only in social contexts but also in corporate contexts. This module provides an opportunity to students to learn from practical working conditions and interact with experienced managers and thereby gain knowledge and wisdom about innovative ways of problem handling and problem-solving.

Following two methodologies are used at FMS-WISDOM to provide Corporate Exposure and Training to students:

1. Senior executives from reputed organizations are frequently invited to interact with the students so as to provide them an opportunity to discuss critical, strategic and operational issues that corporate managers face in managing corporate actions.
2. Students individually or in small groups undertake problem specific assignments that are of interest to organizations. Students prepare a report and make a presentation to the concerned organization and to the Institute.

V. Specialized Project Work (SPW)

Objective of the SPW is to provide an opportunity to students to undertake an in-depth study of a real life problem in the field of their specialization. This project work helps the students to undertake a diagnostic analysis of a problem situation and arrive at indicative solutions. The SPW facilitates institute-industry interaction and is useful to corporate organizations because many times indicative and creative solutions emerge to the benefit of the organization.
SPW is evaluated not only by the respective organization but also by the Institute.

VI. Short Term Executive Programmes (STEPS)

The Institute also offers a short-term executive programme for women executives, women entrepreneurs and women leaders. These have been designed after making a need assessment for the training requirements. These programmes are also designed and offered on "reach-out" basis. Institute has been conducting workshops on various management themes for the benefit of participating organizations.
