Education
The Department has the distinction of initiating Bachelor of Education course in 1962 when it has been College of Education affiliated to University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. It is one of the pioneer department of this Institution that shares major credit to its name. Most of the students passed out from this department are appointed in various educational institutions of repute. In 1998, another branch of B.Ed. (Enriched), has been initiated with the approval of NCTE. It is an entirely learner - centered teacher preparation programme. It is one of the kind in the whole country and
has won wide acclaim from several national as well as international
organisations.
The Masters degree programme provides a rigorous exposure to students
with two fold view of developing an understanding of education as a
discipline on one hand and preparing them adequately in understanding
and carrying out educational research. They learn through group
discussions, seminars, dissertation and library work. They are provided
ample actual hands-on and field experience in this area of
specialization. They are associated with teachers in providing guidance
to B.Ed. students during practice of teaching as well as classroom
lectures.
The Department is actively engaged in research. The Ph.D. programme has been
instituted in the Department as early as 1965 and there are nine
teachers recognized as Ph.D. guides. Till date, over forty candidates have
been awarded the degree. At present, there are about twenty registered
research scholars pursuing their doctoral studies. Besides these, the
staff undertakes research projects – both sponsored and self initiated,
on themes of topical and field relevance. A noteworthy feature is that
the innovative practices tried out in the department are subjected to
systematic study and documentation. This helps in enhancing the level
of conceptualization. Several projects financially supported by several
agencies such as NCTE, UGC, MHRD and NCERT have been carried out.
The Department has a team of technically qualified and academically
oriented teachers. Teachers are engaged not only in teaching but also
in undertaking research projects and guiding research. They actively
participate in several academic fora at regional, national and
international levels, such as seminars, conferences and workshops.
The Department regularly provides academic platform for teachers to
participate in and interact with other field functionaries. These are
in the form of regional and national seminars on relevant themes,
workshops and refresher courses. The Department has also good liaison
with other university departments of education, national organisations
such as NCTE, NCERT, NIEPA, CCRT, CEE, UGC and the NAAC and also with
several NGOs such as Intel teach to future programme 'Reach India'.
