Department of Education
The Department has the distinction of initiating Bachelor of Education course in 1962 when it has been College of Education affiliated to University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. It is one of the pioneer department of this Institution that shares major credit to its name. Most of the students passed out from this department are appointed in various educational institutions of repute. In 1998, as an innovative pedagogy a participative teacher education program Enriched, has been initiated with the approval of NCTE. It is an entirely learner - centred teacher preparation programme. It is a unique teacher education approach in the whole country and has won wide acclaim from several national as well as international organisations. In an another mile stone, department started 4-Year Integrated Bachelor of Arts Bachelor of Education (B.A. B.Ed.), 4-Year Integrated Bachelor of Science Bachelor of Education (B.Sc. B.Ed.) in 2018. The Department of Education upgraded as ‘School of Education' by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India under its Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching scheme in October 2018.
The Master's degree programme provides a rigorous exposure to students with two-fold view of
- Developing an understanding of education as a discipline, and,
- Preparing them adequately in understanding and carrying out educational research.
They learn through group discussions, seminars, dissertation and library work. They are provided ample actual hands-on and/ or field experience in this area of specialization. They are associated with teachers in providing guidance to B.Ed. students during practice of teaching as well as classroom lectures.
The Department is actively engaged in research. The Ph.D. programme was instituted in the Department as early as 1965 and most of the faculty recognized as Ph.D. guides. Till date, over 200 candidates have been awarded the degree. At present, there are about 65 registered research scholars pursuing their doctoral studies. Besides these, the staff undertakes research projects - both sponsored and self-initiated, on themes of topical and field relevance. A noteworthy feature is that the innovative practices tried out in the department are subjected to systematic study and documentation. This helps in enhancing the level of conceptualization. Several projects financially supported by several National agencies such as NCTE, UGC, MHRD and NCERT have been carried out. Recently, department is collaborating with international institutes with support from European Commission Erasmus+ program.
The Department has a team of technically qualified and academically competent teachers. Teachers are engaged not only in teaching but also in undertaking research projects and guiding research. They actively participate in several academic fora at regional, national and international levels, such as seminars, conferences and workshops.
The Department regularly provides academic platform for teachers to participate in and interact with other field functionaries. These are in the form of regional and national seminars on relevant themes, workshops and refresher courses. The Department has also good liaison with other university departments of education, national organisations such as NCTE, NCERT, NIEPA, CCRT, CEE, UGC and the NAAC and also with several other organisations such as INTEL, WIPRO & Diganter etc.

The students of B.Sc. B.Ed., B.A. B.Ed., B.Ed., M.Ed. are exposed to a wide variety of learning experience in order to demonstrate to them the potential of these about which they study as also to enhance the quality of the programme. Main Resource Support
Library:

The Department has a well evolved Library which is a very strong resource. There are more than 26,000 volumes which include course related reading material, self-learning material, reference books, encyclopaedias, technical dictionaries, educational reports and documents, doctoral theses, dissertation and research papers, as relevant resource material for school teaching and textbooks. Many of these are available both in Hindi and English. Around 35 periodicals including 08 foreign journals enable the staff and students to keep in touch with the field.

The library is widely used by not only the staff and students of the Department but also other P.G. students and teachers on campus as well as research scholars and teacher educators from other institutes. The daily readership is over 200 per day.
Technical & Substantive Units:
The Department is well equipped with resources needed for providing hands-on experience in the various learning task of students. For this, there are separate units with necessary equipments, gadgets and other materials. Main ones are:
Educational Technology unit- provides learning inputs for handling and using gadgets for teaching and preparation of software for these such as OHP, Slide Projector, Video and Audio tapes, Video Camera and public address system.
ICT Resource Centre- provides ample opportunities to all the students in using computers of the department as well as IT Labs of the institutions. Thus, developing self-made material through different computer software and also internet browsing for discerning learning resources and integrating matter from them in their classroom teaching and other teacher roles.
The course on Computer Assisted Learning Teaching (CALT) has been an integral part of B.Ed. and M.Ed. curriculum since 1991. Initially, it was an optional course, in 2003, it has been made a compulsory component of teacher education programme.
The Vidyapith has signed an MOU with ‘Intel Teach to the Future' in 2003. Through this, Intel Teach constantly provides technical support to teachers and student teachers in the form of learning modules, periodic technical reorientation and web support.
Psychological unit comprises several psychological tests such as
intelligence, interest inventories, learning experiments - attitude, aptitude,
personality achievement motivation and projective tests. This unit is of great use to
all students, teachers and researchers at all levels.
General Subject provide and develop varied subject related materials useful as instructional supports. These are in the form of models, charts, maps, transparencies and other relevant material and are separately maintained for Sciences, Mathematics, Social Sciences, Language and Home Science. These subject unit also provide training in improvisation techniques for developing instructional support material.
Students' Activity unit deals with organization of various cultural, sports and social activities and celebration of important days.
‘Students Guidance Corner' is a practical group run by the students
specializing in Guidance and Counselling at B.Ed. and M.Ed. levels. Actual
problems and queries of school children are analysed and answers prepared by
them through a display board. Once a year this unit organizes the Guidance Day,
where at displays and discussion with field experts are arranged on issues of
relevance to children's further education and career.
